the classics

On the topic of fashion week, I think we can all agree that certain trends come and go (some with surprising speed), but there are certain pieces that endure season after season. Of course, this is not to say that styles of the moment are not worthwhile, because they certainly are. After all, life would be rather boring without the presence of a sequin dress or novelty handbag. As I get older and put my money towards well made pieces over cheap thrills (older and wiser, perhaps?), my love of classic wardrobe items becomes stronger. The five classic staples every woman should have in her wardrobe . . . THE TRENCH COAT As far as…

behind the curtain: kate spade spring 2016

It’s a little strange to be thinking of spring as we haven’t even approached autumn yet, but alas we must always look ahead. New York Fashion Week kicked off this week and one of my favourite shows is always Kate Spade. A Kate girl is always smiling, always charming. She doesn’t take herself too seriously and tends to have fun with dressing. Whether it’s a whimsical handbag (do you spot that woven pup bag above? C’mon!) or an oversized bow, the Kate Spade aesthetic is one I have a special place for. The new collection was presented in a custom bodega amongst over 30,000 spring blooms — how very New York. I’m told…

the scout / 31

We are back from San Sebastián and had the most wonderful time! We are less than an hour away from the Spanish border so it was a quick little jaunt but we were able to get in plenty of adventure. In fact, we are already plotting another visit for next week. I have lots of photos to share so do stay tuned. Until then, a list of lovely links for your weekend reading pleasure . . . We are starting to think about our wedding invitations as we get married in just over year. I’m really drawn to custom watercolour invites like this one from Happy Menocal. I am loving the new fall arrivals at Draper…

the statement earring

Do you follow fashion illustrator Jenny Walton on Instagram? She’s one of my favourites as of late, so I was delighted to see her over on the J.Crew blog. I have a certain admiration for her feminine style . . . it’s not overtly girly, yet she always looks polished + super chic. You shouldn’t be afraid to wear crystals during the day — they’re good for taking something casual like this army jacket to a much more special place. I’m not a big wearer of jewelry, but I do have an affinity for the statement earring. I have a whole collection of tassels, crystals, and stones and tend to agree with Jenny’s…

away we go: san sebastián

One of the benefits to living along the South West Coast of France is we are a stone’s throw from the Spanish border. Our friends from home are on this side of the Atlantic on a bit of a Eurotrip so tomorrow, Andrew and I are meeting them in San Sebastián. We are taking an early bus to the seaside town — only one hour from Biarritz —  to enjoy some surf followed by pinxtos + sangria. I can’t wait! It will be my first time in Spain. I would love your recommendations if you’ve been before. Until then, follow along with my adventures on Instagram.
